T1 target
We are developing the production target for secondary particles
(pions, kaons, etc.) which will be used in K1.8 beam line
at the first stage.
The goal of the R & D is to maximize yield of secondary particles,
work stably for long beam time under the very severe radiation environment.
The rotating disk was choosen in order to avoid heating up
due to dense irradiation by beam and cool down the target easily.
We are testing the conventional rotating method by baring,
and also the rotation by air pressure,
which give room for cable connection
and make the radiation protection easier.
Moreover, if the rotation speed can be controled
by the pressure change, we do not need to install the monitor
which is not radiation resistant.
We will build a mock-up of T1 target and peripherals in the E-hall
at KEK 12GeV-PS and test the power conducting method byconventional
baring and air pressure.
Caption: A prototype of the production target (T1)
has a metal disk with 54mm thickness and 24cm diameter,
a windmill for the air-flow rotation,
and a cutoff for the detection of rotating speed.
