4th International Workshop on Neutrino Beams & Instrumentation

NBI 2003 Banquet - 11 November

Reflections

On Friday we assembled, for NBI at KEK
Or was it still the Thursday ? - our clocks were all to heck

Facilities upon the site exceed our labs by far
The coffee's quite acceptable inside the DoDo Bar

Ieiri booked us in the Dorm. - a student life once more
We learnt to bow politely - take our shoes off at the door

The lab. building's amazing - a fantastic place to meet
Flower arrangements in the bathrooms and the heated toilet seat

We heard about the status - of projects far and near
Some running - some preparing - and others not too clear

Bill's proton beam at BNL a fancy path will take
Off up the hill, like Jack & Jill to shoot down to Homestake

Nick's liquid target station is amazing to behold
I guess he'll need the Homestake mine, it's going to cost some gold

Larry kept us all amused with tales of MiniBooNE
And how he made wire chambers, one Sunday afternoon

We saw the K2K beam line, the horn was pulsing fine
Or was it just a welcome drum before a Shinto shrine

Erica and Banpaku - had handling clamps to see
Hope they'll not put the horn down where the target's meant to be!

We really learnt a lot about v-beam plans for J-PARC
Just hope the cabinet office does not keep you in the dark

The NuMI beam is coming past - they're ready to install
With 'beneficial occupancy' announced for every hall

Jim's always looking worried - under pressure more and more
It's good that Sam and Nancy are behind to reassure
Targets may explode - sublime - it's really quite amazing
And for certain vacuum windows some resort to double-glazing!

At CERN the civil engineering's very nearly done
Ans Pardons got the hadron stop aligned - after some fun!

Konrad's sleeping better - he distributes work to do
Luca's exotic targets - and handling problems too

Rhodi's air detectors, quite linear do seem
But how they work - and what they see - I guess we have to dream!

Tanaka's trip to Nikko was really rather fun
The many shrines and temples we admired them one by one

The journey - an adventure as we jumped from train to train
It would have been fantastic if it wasn't for the rain!

The rain's continued ever since - the sun forgets to shine
Who didn't leave "bad omen" papers hanging in the shrine?

So thanks to all the speakers - and all their preparation
We learnt so much from everyone - there's lots for meditation

I must leave now - perhaps to dream - I have to rise at 5:15
So sincere thanks, we really mean, to all our friends in KEK's fine team
