Dear Colleague,

After three successful workshops at KEK (June 1999), FNAL (September 2000) and CERN (March 2002), the NBI returned its birthplace. This is the fourth occasion for physicists and engineers working on conventional neutrino beams to meet together and discuss their experience (e.g. from K2K and MiniBoone) as well as their preparation (e.g. for CNGS, NuMI/MINOS and JHF-nu). The emphasis of the workshop is detailed descriptions of equipment, tests and results, and in particular, on challenges in the design. The maniac discussion is always welcome.

Expected participants will be about 40 including Japanese people. So it is a small size workshop dedicated for the specific subject! Since the hotel accommodations for the workshop participants will be prepared at the KEK dormitory, we can enjoy "after dark" session with Sake at the workshop. The room rate of the dormitory is approximately 1000 yen/night/person.

The preliminary program of the workshop will appear at the workshop website; http://www-ps.kek.jp/nbi2003 soon. However the details of the workshop will be fixed at the first day of the workshop. Some of you will be asked to be an organizer of some specific session of the workshop such as “Hadron Production Simulation”. Please do not hesitate to accept it. If you wish to attend the workshop, please fill up the APPLICATION FORM attached below and send it back to the organizer by e-mail or FAX. The second circular containing the travel information to KEK will be sent to those who will return the APPLICATION FORM.

We will be most obliged to you for circulating this announcement among your colleagues.

Sincerely yours

Minoru Takasaki

Chairman of NBI2003
