International
Workshop
Nuclear and Particle
Physics
At 50-GeV PS
Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan
First
Announcement
===============
This
is the first announcement on gthe international Workshop
on Nuclear and Particle Physics at 50-GeV PSh to be held at KEK, Japan, from December 10 to 12, 2001.
As
we announced, the KEK/JAERI Joint Project for high-intensity proton accelerators
proceeded into a construction phase from April, 2001. Some of the accelerator
magnets to be installed in the 50-GeV PS have been already on order. The international
advisory committee and the users board of the project are going to be formed
in a short period.
As
for the slow-extraction experimental area, we still have time, although limited,
before starting the construction. So, it is a good occasion to discuss about
the concrete physics programs and the realistic design of the experimental
area when the beam will be turned on, expected in 2007. Also, we would like
to consider possible future extensions of the facility. The neutrino experiment
at the 50-GeV PS is another important subject to be discussed, although the
construction budget is still to be approved.
We
hope many potential users, world-wide, to come to the workshop and join the
discussions. Those who are interested in this workshop should send a pre-registration
form before October 10, 2001.
The
details of the workshop will be distributed in the next circular. The Workshop
Home Page is located at http://www-jhf.kek.jp/NP01/.
